ASU presents Handel

 

George Frideric Handel The Herberger College of Music at Arizona State University has immersed itself in a celebration of the music of George Frideric Handel. March 5th at 7 p.m. in the Evelyn Smith Music Theatre ( School of Music building, 40 E. Gammage Pkwy., ASU Tempe campus). This event marks a rare opportunity to hear the ASU Chamber Singers and Chamber Orchestra perform Handel's Messiah in its entirety. KBAQ has been speaking with some of the faculty and students about this performance and will be sharing some of those conversations here.

David Schildkret Discusses Hallelujah Chorus
David Schildkret is Professor of Music and Chair of the Choral Program at Arizona State University. Professor Shchikdkret sat down with KBAQ's Sterling Beeaff to discuss the upcoming performance of Handel's 'Messiah'. In this clip he addresses context, particularly the 'Hallelujah!' chorus, and some of the realities of doing the complete oratorio and not "seasonally adjusted' performance.
