Amy Silverman’s first book, My Heart Can’t Even Believe It, hit the shelves this past spring. The book explores Silverman’s relationship with her ebullient daughter Sophie, as well as the sensitive science of Down syndrome.

Paul Mosier is having a wild year: The self-published writer recently landed a book deal with HarperCollins, and his heartfelt novel Train I Ride will debut in January 2017. At the same time, Mosier's daughter Harmony was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer.

Matt Bell is a prolific author of dark and surreal novels, including this year's Scrapper, about a scrap-hunter in a dystopian Detroit. A Michigan native, Bell moved to Arizona two years ago to teach for Arizona State University's MFA program.
